The game is good, but the clarity of explanation is really bad. I think a priority before releasing this would be finding someone to QA your game and give feedback on where explanations need improving.
It's quite unclear in the rewards which things will be added to hand and which will take effect immediately. It's often unclear exactly how spell cards work. Divine light gives no indication it will decrease your armour after use (does it halve your armour and round down the result; this seems to be its effect so far as I can tell) In general it's unclear whether an effect will round up or down. It also isn't clear that 'after each turn' means after turning over a card; I also expected it to take effect after attacking an enemy. Sometimes increasing max HP also increases current HP by the same amount, sometimes it doesn't and I can't tell what makes the difference between the two cases. Perhaps you could also let the player know in the tutorial there's a shop before every 5th level.
On an unrelated note, it would be nice to add the capability to re-order cards in your hand so the player can organise them instead of having them always ordered by time acquired.
I hope this criticism doesn't give the impression I dislike the game; it's really good, just massively held back by weak card text.
Cool little card based dungeon crawler game. Reminds me of the card game Scoundrel (can be played with just a card deck and yourself - or as a video game!).
Gameplay feels very mechanically and intuitive - skills, spells, gear and abilities are felt directly but don't go so much into detail that you need to stress your brain with too much thinking. Love it!
Something that bothers me: Language - Does my hunger decrease or increase when i don't eat? I would call it "Food" and stop confusing others - "Increases Food by 5" seems much easier to undersatand than "Increases Hunger by 5" which would mean your Food-meter goes down but it's not like that.
immediately got addicted played 5 hours straight i guess. is inscryption alike deck building style and incredible
just thought that after achieving 30 i`d get more gameplay and characters.THAT MEANS THIS PERSON NEEDS TO BE SUPPORTED LETS GO THANK YOU FOR THE GAME!!!!!11!1!!1!
finished with knight and vampire... I was expecting to unlock some more... I will wait :D
The tooth relic doesn't seem to work (or I didn't understand how it works).
Some relics seem very... underpowered.
Text for 1.5 hungry 2x life is still a little bit confusing to me... the hunger is rising? The life is raising? The time they decrease? the bar? dunno, sorry, I'm a bit stupid.
An "encyclopedia" would be nice, especially for the bosses.
Some monsters seem to have some ability... maybe a text to explain? (like the evoker that flip another monster).
BUG ? Heart cards (which i was keeping in deck for large hoof use) disappears when entering new level.
Some reward cards (gold, food... hearts i dunno) are used directly, not going in hand and so don't coun't as a played card. No way to triple their value with large hoof :( ?
EDIT : bought the +5hunger relic, hunger didn't go+5 while in shop but ok when reaching next floor. My +2heart changed into +5gold when leaving the shop... ?
It took me some tries to figure out a viable strategy. At first I thought the knight's skill wasn't very good but it's actually pretty useful. Overall, a pretty solid and fun roguelike card game. Not too easy but not impossible either, once you figure out what everything does.
Here's what I found out about game mechanics (skip if you like figuring things out by trial and error):
- Ring of Balance increases max hunger and halves max health. I was wondering why it was doing nothing, it already had. - Knight's skill is AoE, and halves your current armor. It hits before the enemy. - Enchantment's 'subjugate' places the targeted enemy in your hand, with halved attack and health. You can use it to attack, but it doesn't attack first. - The game always rounds up as far as I could tell (haven't checked Ring of Balance).
And tips about the strategy I followed (Knight):
*** SPOILER WARNING ***
Newbie tips: - Kill 1 HP enemies without a weapon. Maybe 2 HP as well. - You don't need to kill enemies if all that remains is the door. It's also ok to skip if you see the exit + key + all enemies. - Grab as many weapons as you can.
Build tips: - No hunger when opening monsters and +1 when killing help. - Only one stress reducer or none if you got enough +food. - +Armor relics are good, but keep in mind armor ingots become half as effective. - Biggest threat are the traps that wake all enemies. Make sure you always have at least 5 mana + armor (item). Or Vanish, which is one of the best items before the boss.
Boss tip: - Buy weapons before the last stage, have at least 8x 10 attacks and a few more. I beat it without opening any cards. It counts number of attacks (including spells like Berserk), and I don't believe it counts cards opened or it'd be quite impossible to beat and all cards are items. I haven't tried Whip, but another commenter recommended against it, not sure if it's been rebalanced since then.
Update:
Vampire
- Shields get replaced, they don't stack. - Does increasing damage and restores hunger (living only) with normal attacks. - Killing enemies increases skill damage. Using it decreases it by 10. (I got a no-numbers-on-cards penalty. I ended up using Berserk twice against the boss)
Reading other comments, I realized the other characters aren't unlockable, they're for the full version.
Played a few runs, didn't win yet. Seems very pleasing, just complex enough to be interesting but not too complex to be really involved in it. Just as good as Cantrip !
BUG ? I used a heart+3 with "gros sabot" (french) counter on 1, my max life was increased only +3 instead of +9 ? worked well with gold, though.
I've been playing one game per day for the last two months. It's a fun little game that will probably be even better in the future. One game lasts around 30 minutes, so it's nice to play when you feel like playing a game but you're not in the mood to play something complex or time-consuming.
In the beginning, it seems like a difficult game, but the more you play, the more you learn from your past mistakes and you start developing good habits. At this point I win 99% of the time.
Improvements that I would like to see are:
- Not having to drag the key on a door to unlock it. If both the key and the door cards are revealed, then just clicking the key card should unlock the door automatically.
- Some sort of visual indicator for undead enemies, because the Vampire's bite attack doesn't replenish Hunger when used on them.
- New items. A lot of items I never use because they're really not useful, mainly the ones that do damage to revealed enemies.
- A way to remove a negative effect, but it has to be something that is earned, not something that's easy to get.
- Perhaps the shop could be better. It's not fun when you save your money to buy something, but the thing that you need is not available in the shop. This has happened to me a few times just before the final stage, where I had a lot of money saved up and desperately needed to buy weapons to defeat the final boss, but there were no weapons available.
this was really fun! I think some of the item descriptions could be clarified, ex. the ring that "increases stress" and "decreases HP" -- I was initially confused so maybe others would be too? definitely liked it <3
Wow, what a great little game. Just this demo is super awesome, if you expand on this even more, you'll really have something special. I'll definitely be buying it on release. Great work brother.
So I expended more time than I expected playing this game. It was amazingly engaging and I really enjoyed all my runs. I have a couple of ideas that I don't see in the comments bellow, most of them QOL: - It would be great to right click when hovering a card to reset its position, like "i don't really want to use it", this is in other card games like hearthstone. - Armor was confusing at first because I though it stacked, but no haha. - Undead enemies may need to say so for vampire runs. - It would be great to know the amount of dmg the player would do "bare knuckled" - The key and door mechanic is fun the first runs, but it ends up feeling like a chore every time. I'd love the door to be opened as soon as I turn both cards AND there's no enemies (I suppose the mechanic hurts player trying to "run away")
Really cool game, simple but not that immediate, there are some things to asjust like the vampire spell which is pretty broken against the boss but i love the variety of effects and objects. I'd love to donate but sadly itch's payment doesnt work rn i dont know why

yes but don't forget they'll hit you all before you escape !
Oh, you're right, I forgot to mention that ^^;

Keep up the good work !
other question : why does "divine light" reduce amor stat ? (french) text doesn't say anything about that.
It works correctly, there is an error in the description.
Thanks!
Yes, this is a bug, it should work with all cards.
Thanks!

Clicking the key is the first thing that will be fixed in the full version, as many have complained about this moment :)
Other suggestions will also be taken into account!
Muy bueno
Great little card game.
this was really fun! I think some of the item descriptions could be clarified, ex. the ring that "increases stress" and "decreases HP" -- I was initially confused so maybe others would be too? definitely liked it <3
Fun demo, I was unsure about what ring of balance was supposed to do with its description so i think that should be clarified
I downloaded this game in Hawaii, I don't regret downloading it.
Completely love this, good work.
Bug report: Large hoof multiplies by 3, not adds.
There must be a multiplication. An error in the description.
This is a Fantastic Game! Scratched an itch I've had for a long time!
Wished listed it!
that was fun as hell
Wow, what a great little game. Just this demo is super awesome, if you expand on this even more, you'll really have something special. I'll definitely be buying it on release. Great work brother.
Good job. You've made a great game. I'd like to play the full version too.
Honestly, seems like a very good game! Keep it on!
This is the coolest game I've played on itch!
Man this is really good game, I likely.
Very good job.
Really enjoyable, just played one round but can't wait to play more!
Really liking this game. It’s a chill rounds-based Dungeoncrawler.
Can I contribute to the German localisation?
I'm glad you liked the game :)
If you have any localization questions, please contact fourcats.company@gmail.com
As a person that does not play card games often. This game is very fun! Also, very helpful and easy to understand tutorial.
nice game
Hey there! I'd like to translate your game into Turkish professionally if you're interested!!
Hi! Please write to the email fourcats.company@gmail.com
Do you plan to make full version on Android?
Yes
Vamp fun af. Just held off till the end, and the boss died in two turns
Amazin game, simple.
There needs to be a way to remove debuffs
The gameplay is pretty simple, but the graphics are gorgeous.
i tried to play with vampire, ok if we cant bite the undead, but its strange if we get food by biting the slime monster
Well, he's alive :)
-_-
i only see level 3 spear (level = damage) level 3 sword and level 2 spear, is there a level 2 sword axe and hammer? and level 3 axe and hammer?
The image for each "level" of the weapon is randomly selected from 4 sprites (sword, spear, hammer, axe)
So I expended more time than I expected playing this game.
It was amazingly engaging and I really enjoyed all my runs.
I have a couple of ideas that I don't see in the comments bellow, most of them QOL:

- It would be great to know the amount of dmg the player would do "bare knuckled"
- The key and door mechanic is fun the first runs, but it ends up feeling like a chore every time. I'd love the door to be opened as soon as I turn both cards AND there's no enemies (I suppose the mechanic hurts player trying to "run away")
Really really cool game. Congrats!
I wanted to make a game just like this..sad that someone thought of it before me. Great game tho.
really fun game!!! excited to see more updates
